QR Code Size for Print
A printable QR code needs enough physical size, contrast, and quiet space around the code. The right size depends on scanning distance and how much data is inside the code.
Start with the scanning distance
For close-range print such as cards, handouts, and table signs, a QR code around 25 to 35 mm wide is a practical minimum. For posters, windows, and wall signs, increase the size so the code is obvious before the user lifts the phone.
If people will scan while walking or from several meters away, test at the real distance instead of relying on a template.
Keep the quiet zone
The quiet zone is the empty margin around the QR code. It helps scanners detect the code boundary. Avoid placing text, borders, or graphics too close to the modules.
A safe rule is to leave at least four module widths of clear space around the code.
Shorter payloads scan more easily
A short URL produces a simpler QR pattern than a long paragraph or very detailed vCard. Simpler patterns can tolerate smaller print sizes better.
If a code looks very dense, print it larger and test it in the lighting where it will be used.
Prefer SVG for layout work
SVG stays sharp at any size and is easier to place in design tools, presentations, and print layouts. PNG is useful when a tool does not accept SVG, but export at a high enough pixel size.
PlainQR exports both formats so you can choose the file type that fits the production workflow.
